I then installed Office 2007 and the setup did not correct the file associations. HOW TO CHANGE DEFAULT PROGRAM TO OPEN HTML WINDOWS 8 WINDOWS 7Windows 7 opened it using WordPas which was fine except for the fact that it then set the default file association for all files of that type to WordPad. HOW TO CHANGE DEFAULT PROGRAM TO OPEN HTML WINDOWS 8 INSTALLI had tried opening a document that was previously associated with Microsoft Office Word 2007 on the new install without having Office 2007 installed. Hi everyone, I just installed Windows 7 and had some similar issues. I have tried repairing Office, re-installing Office, even tried to manually move some registry entries from a good machine but nothing seems to restore the missing file associations unless I delete the user's profile and create a new one. ![]() I would like to find an easy way to resolve this before we continue the deployment of Office 2007. They are all the same hardware and the same Windows XP SP2 image was used to originally deploy them. We did not have the Compatibility Pack installed on any of these computers. The existing account is the only one impacted by this. If I create a new profile on the computer, all file associations are there. They can manually open the file, but no double-clicking the file to open. When I log the user in they don't have all the associations. The weird thing is, the install is done through an Administrative account and all file associations work fine for that account. Only one file association fails on an impacted machine, not all three at once. When the user logs onto their computer Windows will not recognize Word 2007 files, or Excel 2007 files or PowerPoint 2007 files. But I have run into problems with about 10% of our computers where file associations are not made properly for the user. I am upgrading our company (180 Windows XP SP2 systems) from Office 2003 to Office 2007 and most of the time things go as they should. I have been searching for a solution to this problem as well. Either it is something rare, or something that re-occurs and cannot be simply resolved by them. I have not found much about this anywhere and Microsoft does not seem to want to talk about it. We do have a really intelligent client base that has learned to save attachments locally and then open from inside the related Office 2007 program, thus associating the files manually. Our clients have been connected to an Exchange 2003 server but those are being upgraded to Exchange 2007 and it has not particularly resolved the file association issue. In Outlook 2007, clients cannot preview or double-click on Office 2007 files they receive in their email. We then removed it independently and reinstalled our Office 2007 answer file. We later found out that the "remove all Office 2003" did not uninstall it because it is actually an Office 2007 product that pointed Office 2007 files at Office 2003. About 5% of those had the Compatibility Pack. Did you ever find any help with this issue? When I rolled Office 2007 to about 400 faculty and staff workstations here at the community college, we had similar issues.
